Mass Energize

Discount rain barrels and compost bins: Pre-Order before April 7!

Event Description

Consider some “Spring Greening” by taking advantage of the Wayland DPW rain barrels and compost bins at discount prices. Rain barrels sustainably provide healthy water for your flowers and vegetables, especially during a water ban. Compost bins turn your food scraps and yard waste into highly nutritious fertilizer for your garden.

Like previous years, Wayland has opted to work with the Great American Rain Barrel Co., approved vendors by the MASSDEP for the state since 2010. Rain barrels are made from recycled olive shipping containers. They hold 60 gallons of water, are made of UV-protected, food-grade plastic, and include a mosquito net to keep bugs out. They are offered in three colors; Forest Green, Earth Brown or Nantucket Gray at the cost of $69, or unpainted for $64.

The deadline for rain barrel purchase is April 7th, at Midnight. You can go online at www.greatamericanrainbarrel.com/community/, choose your community: fill in the form, and pay online. Barrels will be available for pick up on April 13th, 10 AM- 2 PM, at the Wayland Transfer Station (484 Boston Post Road, Wayland, MA 01778).

Compost bins are Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) New Age Composters. They hold 24 c. ft., are easy to set up, and cost $67 each. Order early, preferably before 4/13, because we have a limited number available. To order, email [email protected] and we’ll send you ordering instructions. You can pick up your bins at the Wayland Transfer Station on Clean-Up day, April 13, between 10 AM and 2 PM. If you can't make that pickup time, just let us know.
