Over 360 homes and businesses in Wayland have solar photovoltaic systems (PV) systems and the number grows steadily. Read their testimonials lower on this page. These arrays are in effect private power plants, collectively generating renewable energy.
Due to falling prices and state incentives…
you can often install a system that will pay for itself in 6-7 years if you have a suitable site. After that it is all positive cash flow as the panels generate power for 25-30 years or more. It is like a small 401(k) on your roof! Retirees or single earner families with lower incomes may qualify for Mass Solar Loan incentives and see even quicker payback. On top of that, solar panels increase the value of your home. There are no sales taxes on solar panels, and they do not add to your home assessment for property taxes even though panels have been shown to increase the value of the home (if you purchase the panels). Because Massachusetts has among the highest electricity prices in the country along with significant state incentives ($1000 tax credit, SRECs which pay you annually for your solar production), the value of solar panels is particularly attractive in MA.
Solar PV produces home-grown, safely-generated, clean electricity that contributes clean energy to the electric grid and reduces your CO2 emissions as well as nasty pollutants such as fine particulates, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide and ozone. Every solar kWh means one less fossil fuel kWh. The electricity produced can be used to help charge electric cars and transition away from burning oil and natural gas by powering high-efficiency electric heat pumps for home heating and cooling.
